Infertility is of two types:
Primary Infertility refers to the inability of either male or female to conceive a baby. This may be due to chromosomal defects or genic abnormalities (link to facts)
Secondary infertility is failure of either male or female to conceive after having had a successful conception or baby. This also can be due to chromosomal involvement and or or genic involvement (link to facts)
Bad obstetric history refers to inability of a woman to carry a pregnancy to term (abortion, miscarriage or intra uterine death) or delivering a baby with congenital anomalies as well as having a history of neonatal deaths. This may be due to a genetic problem in either partner
Genetic counsellors will help the couple to understand the role of genetics in their infertility and also suggest the suitable screening tests to identify the cause. They emphasize the role of heredity in occurrence and recurrence. Help choose appropriate course of action in view of the couple’s goals.
